Trash King is a Christian- and family-owned junk removal company based in Salem, NH, and we work Portsmouth and the Seacoast regularly. From the brick rowhouses of the South End and the historic streets around Market Square to the postwar homes of Elwyn Park and the offices out at Pease, every corner of the city has its own kind of clutter — and salt air that wears things down faster than most folks expect. We show up, do the heavy lifting, and leave your place broom-clean.
What We Haul in Portsmouth
We handle full-service junk removal along with residential and commercial cleanouts, hoarder and estate cleanouts, and demolition debris. A few jobs we see often around here:
- South End and downtown rentals — apartment and condo turnovers near Market Square, with furniture carried down narrow historic stairwells
- Seacoast garages and yards — rusted grills, patio sets, and metal fencing corroded by years of coastal humidity
- Estate and basement cleanouts — decades of belongings from older homes in Atlantic Heights, Christian Shore, and Maplewood
Skip the dump run — we handle it
The Portsmouth Recycling Center on Peverly Hill Road is residents-only, open just a few days a week, and charges per item — $5 for a mattress or couch, $10 for electronics, $20 for a refrigerator. Curbside bulky pickup has to be scheduled and paid ahead with Public Works. We take that whole errand off your plate: we load it, haul it, and sort it for donation, recycling, or proper disposal so you never touch the scale. Just know we cannot take hazardous materials, gas, or oils — those belong at the city's Household Hazardous Waste Day.
We are licensed, fully insured, and biohazard-certified, and we donate usable items to local charities and recycle what we can. Same-day and next-day service is available for most jobs, with free on-site quotes and no hidden fees. Junk We Most Often Haul in Portsmouth
Every neighborhood has its own patterns. Here's what we see most often when we get a call from Portsmouth, NH.
- Historic-home renovation debris (plaster, horsehair, wide-plank flooring, original windows) from 1700s-1800s colonial and Federal-era houses in South End, Christian Shore, and downtown
- Salt-corroded outdoor furniture, gas grills, and metal fixtures from Seacoast exposure on porches and decks of waterfront and near-waterfront properties
- Marine and boat gear: outboard motors, dock hardware, life preservers, anchors, canvas, and fiberglass from recreational boaters on the Piscataqua River and Little Harbor
- Downtown condo and loft turnover debris - appliances, cabinetry, and fixtures from conversions of historic commercial buildings into residential units
- Restaurant and hospitality fixture cleanouts - booths, commercial kitchen equipment, bar furniture, and signage from the heavy tourism and dining economy in Market Square and downtown
- Pease Tradeport office and light-industrial tenant cleanouts - cubicle systems, server racks, modular furniture, and lab/biotech equipment from the former Air Force base business park
- Affluent estate cleanouts - antique furniture, artwork, and accumulated household goods from multi-generation home estates in Elwyn Park, the West End, and waterfront neighborhoods
Disposal Rules in NH
Under New Hampshire RSA 149-M:27, the following items are banned from solid-waste landfills and incinerators: wet-cell (lead-acid) batteries (since 1991), rechargeable lithium-ion batteries (effective July 1, 2025), electronic devices including TVs, monitors, computers, peripherals, DVD/VCR players, cell phones, and tablets (since 2007), and leaf/yard waste. RSA 149-M:58 separately bans mercury-added products (fluorescent and CFL bulbs, mercury thermostats and switches). Effective February 1, 2025, businesses generating one ton or more of food waste per week must divert it when an authorized facility exists within 20 miles. Contrary to common belief: mattresses are NOT banned from NH landfills (unlike Massachusetts) and as of May 2026 NH has NO statewide PaintCare or paint-stewardship program — Governor Ayotte vetoed HB 451 in March 2026 and the House override failed on April 9, 2026. Illegal dumping under RSA 149-M:15 carries civil penalties up to $25,000 per day plus criminal misdemeanor/felony charges; report to local police or NH DES at (603) 271-2942.
